1 – Plymouth Hoe

The Hoe (Old English for 'high ground') is definitely the most beautiful spot in Plymouth offering panoramic views of Plymouth Sound (a huge natural harbour that stretches from Devon to Cornwall).

Your Insta will be popping with the photos you can get from the viewing platform at the top of Smeaton Tower, the refurbished lighthouse that was relocated and rebuilt on the Hoe. 

2 – Barbican

Fancy stepping back in time? Well then consider walking the cobbled streets of the Barbican. Nearby to the Hoe, this historic area is where the Pilgrims set off to America. The picturesque harbour is dotted with fantastic restaurants, art galleries, bars, shops and, most importantly, award-winning fish and chips. Just watch out for the seagulls. They take no prisoners.

3 – Royal William Yard

About five minutes’ drive outside the centre of Plymouth, Royal William Yard is an impressive 19th Century Naval base that has been converted into some of the city’s coolest restaurants and bars, as well as luxury apartments. Well worth a visit.

Also, if you fancied a stroll after grabbing some fancy grub, it’s a short coastal walk to the alarmingly-named Devil’s Point, while again offers stunning sea views and, usually, equally stunning dogs having a lovely day out with their owners. 

4 – Wembury Beach

Wembury is a quaint little coastal village that’s perfect for a day out of the city centre, and the beach is an absolute winner. Rock pools, decent surf, ice- creams, and gorgeous coastal walks nearby – Wembury beach has it all!

5 – Plymouth Gin Distillery

If you fancy a little tipple, why not take a trip to this historic distillery which has been running since 1793. The restaurant within also serves fantastic food, not that you’ll be too fussy after you’re a few gins in!

6 – Mount Edgcumbe

Hop on the Cremyll Ferry over to Mount Edgcumbe, a stunning country park and stately home where you can explore for hours through sprawling gardens and along coastal paths. 

Swing by the Edgcumbe Arms before hopping on the ferry back for the best carvery of your life. You heard it here first.

7 – Saltram House

Ever wanted to step inside a Jane Austen novel? Then Saltram might be the place for you. This 18th century estate features a grand manor house and beautiful gardens that are well worth an explore. Just avoid Mrs Bennett or she might try and marry you off to one of her daughters.

8 – The Box

The Box only opened a couple years ago, but is already a must-see spot for anyone visiting Plymouth! Focusing mainly on the city’s rich history, you can also find art galleries, installations and amazing artefacts. You’re gonna sound intelligent as hell reeling off pure historical knowledge when people ask you how your trip to Plymouth was.

9 – Dartmoor

Want to get immersed in nature? Explore Dartmoor’s Tors, bogs, mires and moorland. Wander the dramatic scenery that was the inspiration for the Sherlock Holmes canine adventure ‘The Hound of the Baskervilles’ by Conan Doyle.

10 – National Marine Aquarium

It’s the UK’s largest aquarium and it’s got sharks. Awesome. Nuff said.
